More Sewing Fun

Here are a few things I made for Christmas gifts this year. I had so much I wanted to make and yet the time was not there. The owl applique was sewed onto a zip up hoody. If you look really close you can see a "P" sewed into the middle of the owl. It was for Preston. I of course have so much fun making smocks for the kids. Here are two more I made. Enjoy

My brother had a baby girl last Friday. I'm so happy for them. Her name is Braiya Lynn Vincent and she is just darling! I thought I would post some pictures of the baby blanket I made her. I just love making baby gifts! I think because of the cute prints and patterns you get to choose from. I made a quilted rag blanket. Sorry the color didn't turn out to good on my camera for some reason.

Baby Applique

I made these for my sister in laws little boy Bridger. They are all appliqued and iron ons. I love the Dinosaur one most because on the bum is Dinosaur foot prints. I also made some girl ones and totally forgot to take pictures before I sent them of to a friend of mine. They are so fun to make!

Love Making Little Ones Smocks

Here are some new Aprons I have made lately. They are all for Birthday Gifts! I love putting fabrics together and seeing the finished project. I have many more that are being worked on and will also be for gifts. My daughter uses her smock all the time especially when she is painting.

How To Sew A Pillow Case

This being my very first tutorial I thought I would start out with something pretty easy and fun to make. I love to collect fabric of all sorts and so with that I have "WAY" to much just sitting in drawers. So I went through some of my fabric the other day and decided to put some to use. My mom had sent me this really cute cat material a few months ago and I decided to make Avery my daughter a fun pillowcase for her bed since she was using an old plain one anyway. So here is what you need

fabric of choice
siccors
sewing machine
ribbon ( if want )
Fray Check ( for ribbon ends)
a pillowcase to use for pattern


I prewased my fabric the night before so that it was already pre shrunk. I always have an iron handy to smooth out the wrinkles. I used an old pillowcase from my room and laid it on top of my fabric.

Make sure you have the closed end of the pillowcase lined up on the fold of the fabric. You want the opened end of the pillowcase on nap.

I don't use a pencil to trace the pattern out. I just go out about a inch and a half from the pattern and start cutting around it.

Be sure not to cut on the fold!


Next I go to my sewing machine and sew down both sides about 5/8 width. I do go back and sew a second seem to reinforce the sides.
Next I make the cuff of the pillow opening. I fold the pillowcase cuff down while the fabric is inside out still and iron the fold down. I use my pattern for how far to fold it down with the pillowcase pattern. I then sew a 5/8 hem around the folded cuff and then make a 1/4 hem around the cuff again. I then iron it all out again.



To add ribbon, just pin around cuff and sew with a zig zag all around. I then made two bows and then attached them with a needle and thread.




Once your done with your decorative ribbon I always add "Fray Check" to the ends of my ribbon. That way it won't unravel easily. !

More Applique Fun

This is a T- shirt I appliqued for my nephew Evan. He loves "Cars"!!! I actually made him a blanket and two pillow cases for his toddler bed about 4 months ago. I had some left over fabric with the big car prints on it. I cut a few out and put my applique skills to work and here you have it, a fun T- shirt to match his "Car's" bedding!

New Applique Halter Dress

I have been really bad about getting the posts done for the things I have been making lately. I still have some more things to post that I have finished, but sometimes its hard to get a good clear picture of what I made. I will do my best to posts some more projects that I have accomplished.

This dress was so much fun and I just love to applique! I plan to make different varieties and patterns for some more of these type of dresses. Can I just say that I love my sewing group!!! This is what happens when you learn to sew properly!!

Water Bottle Holders for Girls Camp

So this week starting Wednesday I will helping with Girls Camp for church. I'm actually very excited and haven't camped in who knows how long. So one of the other leaders that will be there starting today asked if I could help come up with a craft for some girls that helped setting up the tents and so on. I remember seeing a really fun tutorial on how to make a home made water bottle holder. I found it here. Make it and Love it. I found some material that I thought would go well and also was sturdy. I made I think 8 total today. I also added the two main leaders their initial on the front. I wanted to do that for all of them, but didn't know some of the other girls names. So this is how they turned out! This was so fun to make and also will come in handy!

Children's Aprons

I just LOVE making these adorable children's aprons or smocks. This was actually my very first sewing project that I picked to make in my sewing group about 5 months ago. Since then I have made two more and have plans and ideas for some new ones. I actually can make these without instructions now since I have done a few. I'm also thinking of making up a few different looks to sell. Leaf Clip

This was fun to do. I had found this leaf print skirt at Target about three months ago on clearance. I thought how perfect to make a matching leaf clip to go with the look. I just love how it turned out and it really made the outfit!

End Of Year Teacher Gifts

Okay I cannot remember where I found this really cute craft idea. I was blog hopping and came across the idea. They are so much fun to make and are also very useful. I had to make a lot because the boys have teachers that also help them with speech and such. You can make them into a fridge magnate or just use them as a paper clip holder. I actually use it as both. I always need more magnates when the kids are bringing paper work home. So here are a few examples.

Love To Applique!

I learned how to do appliques at my sewing group a few weeks back. I have to say this is one of my favorite new things to do. I decided instead of buying Avery some much needed shirts for summer, that I would get plain color shirts that cost about $3.50 each and turn them into fun shirts that have a punch to them. I love them and had so much fun making them! What do you think?
